exactly is a firewall?
A firewall
is simply a barrier between your computer and the Internet. Like a wall
with a locked door, you can set up rules on who can and can't go through
the door. When it comes to the computer, we can grant permission for
certain programs to send and receive data (i.e. go through the door) and
which ports (doors) we will allow to be open. This can be done through
either a hardware solution such as an SMC Blockade Firewall or by using
a software based solution such as McAfee personal firewall or Zone Alarm
